Alcoholics Anonymous – A.A. Meetings support alcoholics to help them stay sober. They utilize a twelve-step program which are principles, that tend to be spiritual, but if practiced one can rid the drinking problem and regain his/her life.
Nar-Anon – Group meetings offered to families who have a loved one using drugs. Support based on a 12 step program – not a religious program but a spiritual way of life.
Narcotics Anonymous World Services – They will help you find a meeting place. They offer events, literature, and material.
National Alliance for Mental Illness – 1-800-950-NAMI This organization has amazing telephone support for family and mentally ill individuals. Also, a family course is available to help you understand mental illness and to increase your coping skills. In addition, participants will learn to become advocates for their family members.
Partnership for Drug-Free Kids – On this site, you will find helpful articles about how to start talking to your kids about drugs and alcohol before they begin trying it. They also have informational articles for understanding and finding treatment if your child has already started using and they have useful articles about self-care and learning skills to help your child and family heal, etc.;
SAMHSA’s National Helpline, 1-800-662-HELP (4357) This helpline is a Treatment Referral Routing Service. It is a confidential, free, 24-hour-a-day information service. (English and Spanish) This service provides referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community-based organizations for anyone facing mental or substance use disorders (or both).
Low Cost Counseling Centers in Los Angeles County, CA - A site to find low-cost counseling. (I’m positive that any state has low cost centers, just call the county.)
